Resident choreographer/dance coach.
Throughout the year, dance progammes or Pilates classes are introduced to these young athletes during early morning timings to kick start their weekday morning(s) with dynamic movement & dance-based training. This programme aims to improve the movement coordination, musicality & body awareness of these young athletes. There is also a new (since 2012) selected performance team comprising of all the different academies (gymnastics, golf, bowling, track&field, table tennis, swimming, synchronised swimming, shooting, fencing, soccer, programme sports) that am currently training during off season periods for major performances and events.

Hip Hop & Jazz CCA With Secondary Schools

Assisted & lead for one term (June-Sep’08) in Bedok View Secondary School, Bendemeer Secondary School, Dunman High School and Anglican High School. Different schools have different ways of learning and different dynamics with students of all types of personalities in the same class. The challenge given was to make class enjoyable yet deliver performance and progress in view of the upcoming Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). Currently running the dance group in Zhenghua Secondary School, I look forward to sending them for their first time competing in SYF Modern Category next year.

Health Science Authority (HSA) Enrichment programs for schools – 2008
Required to talk about health and keeping fit before conducting a hip hop dance class. Through theory explanation, speaking concepts has helped me reinforce, clarify and test my knowledge of the body.

Enrichment Program @ Bendemeer Sec NT-cipate Hip Hop – June-Aug 08

This 9 week program (3hours per session per week) was designed for Normal Technical students. Because this course was compulsory, my challenge was to motivate these students. Discipline is also a problem when these students get easily restless or lazy. It took time to build rapport with the students. At the end of the course they staged a hip hop dance item and it was awesome. Through dance, they have definitely become more disciplined and passionate people which I believe will stay with them for life.

Hip Hop with Chao Yang Special School – Year 2008

This group of kids choose to join the dance CCA, hence passion for dance is not a problem. The challenge lies in managing them; to hold their attention and to explain or show clearly instructions. Currently I’m preparing them for a combined concert item with ten year olds from St Anthony’s Primary.

People’s Association Community Centres (Hip Hop classes) – 2007 to 2009

The pool of students here are dance enthusiasts with interest but limited experience and technique background. My task is to equip them and hopefully further fuel their passion for dance and life. The courses I conduct are Hip Hop, Girls Hip Hop, J/K Pop, Street Jazz and Lyrical Jazz.

ITE Elite Dance Group Resident Choreographer – Ongoing since 2009

The stronger dance students are selected from the various ITE institutions and placed into this Elite group. My task is to train and rise up this new group of fresh intakes and gear them up to perform and represent ITE in the long run. Gradually equipping them with dance techniques and laying out the foundations, yet challenge them to achieve more. On 21Nov’2011, this group presented an ethnic fusion piece I choreographed that awarded them the Silver Medal in the International Dance Competition Contemporary Category held at Genting Highlands.

Studio Teaching Experience

Ocean Butterflies Musicforest Studios (Dance) – Nov2008-Mar2010

This studio is mostly famous for its celebrities and singers they produce. Since 2008, the popularity of dance has risen and was with MusicForest full-time for 1.5 years. My task was to conduct dance courses of different levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and to choreograph for or train artistes/singers and prepare them for their concerts or showcases or related performances. From 2010, I taught at Musicforest at a part-time status to allow more free time to pursue my dance life and opportunity to dance more. At Musicforest, I taught Girls Style classes titled waacking, girls hip hop and jazzfunk.

Jody Marshall Dance Studios – 2010-2011

This newly opened dance studio in 2010 has its main headquarters in Austrailia that has been around and well established for 33 years in Perth. I was part of this new faculty here in Singapore and this studio’s focus is on early childhood development and teaching children from as young as 3 years old to 6 years old, all the way up to adults. My role was to grow and attract the teen and youth market to the studio.

Prabhudeva Dance Acadamy – 2010-2013
(Website:
www.prabhudeva.com.sg)

This studio has recently opened only April 2010 by the reknowned Bollywood and Hollywood dancer, choreographer, director Prabhu Deva. It has been my privilege to teach and groom talents both young and old there of different abilities and experience-levels. At this studio, I teach Kids HipHop, Adult Jazzfunk, Adult Hip-Hop and Stretching/Conditioning classes.

Danz People Studios – Ongoing since 2010
(Website:
www.danzpeople.com)

This dance studio functions mainly on an open-class basis. So students pay-as-they-attend. With this scheme students tend to prefer more choreography-oriented classes. However, i believe basic jazz and ballet technique is still important so my lyrical jazz classes are split into the first half when warm-up and technique is covered while the second half is on choreography. I teach Lyrical Jazz at this studio.

Recognize R! Studios – Ongoing since 2011

I teach intermediate girls hiphop at this studio. Because this studio only offers street dance styles, the student crowd there are definitely more focused and dedicated to their craft. My class offers more intricate choreography but as always i start with basics and hiphop technique revisions. I also represent Recognize studios for external projects and shows as a choreographer or dancer.

Passion Studios (Melbourne, Australia) – 2012
Though after intensive audition to qualify as an instructor. I was very thankful for this opportunity and through the studio, I had more contacts to many shows and video shoots in Melbourne. I taught a few regular dance classes of my own style and private lessons during the day.

IAM Studios – 2013-2014
